ARE YOU FALLING INTO THE LEADERSHIP TRAP?

The words you use as a manager shape what people do next. When you say, “Just come to me if it’s urgent,” you may be trying to be supportive, but you can unintentionally teach people to make things urgent so they can bring the problem back to you. You are trying to help, but the way you are helping is creating more dependency, more interruptions and more problems coming back to you.

The Real Reason This Keeps Happening

You were thrown in at the deep end and told to manage people.

  • You are doing your best, but you are getting stressed, stretched and overloaded because you are still the person everyone comes to when they are stuck.
  • The people you lead do not need to be rescued.
  • They need to be encouraged to think, make decisions and solve more of their own problems.

That is where coaching skills come in.

THE LEADERSHIP TRAP HAS THREE PARTS

01

Fixing

“I’ll just do it myself.”

It feels quicker, but it teaches people to bring the problem back to you.

02

Advising

“Here’s what I would do.”

It sounds helpful, but it stops people thinking it through for themselves.

03

Rescuing

“I’ll step in before this gets uncomfortable.”

It avoids the difficult conversation, but it stops people building confidence and ownership.

WHY THIS WORKSHOP EXISTS

Most managers do not realise coaching skills are what they are missing.

They just know they are tired of firefighting, avoiding difficult conversations and carrying everyone else’s problems as well as their own.

This workshop gives you practical communication and coaching skills for the conversations you actually need to have. You will practise how to ask better questions, help people think clearly and encourage ownership of thinking, actions and objectives.

The shift is simple:
“Let me fix this for you.”
“Let me help you think this through.”

That shift is teachable - and it is what these two days are designed to give you.
